Recently he led the internal development of the company's cloud based clientelling product now used within 1000 department store locations. Along with implementing an AI demand-based forecasting product for in-store inventory replenishment.

He started his career in merchandising in South African fashion retail, spending six years at Woolworths (SA) and three years at Totalsports, running the footwear and clothing merchandising teams. Moving to the UK in 2000, he joined Tesco’s International Sourcing division for two years before moving to IT in 2002. Marcel worked in IT at Tesco for 13 years, starting as Project Manager and finishing as Group IT Director for Commercial systems, working across several business functions focussed on both growth and productivity. Marcel is a certified IT Architect.

He holds master’s degrees in Computer Cartography and Computer Science from the University of Zurich, an Executive MBA by IMD/IBM and has followed advanced executive education at Harvard and Stanford.

Privately he is married, father of two adult sons and enjoys family, high altitude mountaineering, skiing and the outdoors.
